|| Scrapbook Scraps February 2026

We’ve been planting trees and restoring hedgerows as part of the winter work on the farm, always a very fulfilling and satisfying job, creating a home and haven for wildlife, safe corridors from predators and a defining feature on the landscape. There’s something special thinking about the role they play above and below the ground and beyond our lifetime.

With the ground drying out and warming up, the fields will soon be ready for planting as well, with spring crops of barley and potatoes.
Snowy tails || While on one hand we are trying to keep (wild) deer from feasting on our newly planted tree-lings (with the green protective tubes above), up the glen we are working hard to keep the deer on the farm nourished and sated. The amount of rain has made the ground pretty wet and will be a challenge for the grass to push through. For another month or so, we will be giving the deer additional silage and cereals to keep them strong against the elements, especially the pregnant mothers. In the last few weeks, there have been some truly beautiful scenes of the deer on the hill bathed in snow and sunshine.
