Harvest is in (a little later than last year with the stop-start nature of the weather) and the new crops are now being planted for next year. This month we've been picking brambles from the hedgerows and apples and plums from the orchard, and the turkeys are enjoying their own supply too.
As the windows for the machines to be rolling were so short this year, when the sun shone it was a huge hive of activity, with balers following the combine so that it could bale the straw as soon the crops were cut. The grain goes back to the farm to be dried before it continues its journey for casks or cattle. The bales will be used for cosy winter bedding for our pigs and cattle on neighbouring farms.
